LIFE | A cold, and breaking my no buy

You know when you’re really busy but you feel like you’re just managing to stay on top of things? That was me, until I got hit with a ruthless cold this weekend. It’s one of those vibes where I can’t get my temperature right and I feel like I might choke on my own mucus if I lie down. Sorry. I haven’t been able to get my shit together enough to blog properly – today has been spent chugging orange juice and drawing face charts while watching Top Chef. I figured I can at least write about some things that I have been vibing on, though. And I though I better update you on how and why I broke my no buy resolution.

Top Chef
I don’t know why I didn’t watch this sooner – I love reality TV cooking and I love Bravo shows like Project Runway. I’ve watched the most recent season except for the finale (that’s buffering as I type). Hopefully that will keep me distracted enough to avoid my Twitter timeline while the cricket is on.

Essie nail polish
It should be no surprise to you that I like Essie nail polish, but I have been acquiring it at an alarming rate lately. I was doing really well on my no-buy, but I think that might have been the problem? As soon as I hit a bump and had a rough few days I was like, fuck it, I need to buy Bordeaux and After School Boy Blazer because they’re buy-one-get-one-half-off, and then a few days later I bought this cute three pack of Essie favourites from Farmers (it has Mademoiselle, Fifth Avenue and Mint Candy Apple). Not to mention finding On A Silver Platter on eBay. I feel like I can only justify this if I write an Essie collection post, so maybe I should do that!

Face charts
We’ve been learning how to draw face charts at school and I find it really, really therapeutic as well as fun. I’m still learning, especially how to define the contours of the face. I think I’m going to find some other face chart templates to try too, because these are so small!

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation
I really don’t know why I bought this, because I have plenty enough foundation as it is, but I’m glad I did. It’s fucking great. I thought I might do a video review of it when I get some time? I actually like this better than the sample I got of the new NARS foundation, and I never thought I’d be saying that.

MAC Cinderella Eye gloss swatch

MAC x Cinderella Lightly Tauped Eye Gloss*
Excuse the different light for this photo, but I thought I’d talk about this eye gloss while I’m here. MAC released it as part of their Cinderella collection and it’s gorgeous! I mean, it’s an eye gloss, so of course it’s not the most practical thing for day wear, but the holographic micro-shimmer is like nothing I’ve seen before (honestly) and I can’t wait to use it at school. I wrote a bit more about it on xoVain the other day.

I’m going to go back to blowing my nose and finding out who won Top Chef. I’ll pick the winner of the So Totally Clean tonight too, so pop over and leave a comment on that post if you haven’t already!

Your Essie nail polishes make me feel like painting my nails so I’m not bored while the cricket is on. Also, I think I want that Cinderella Eye Gloss – I’ve seen the whole glossy eye look a lot recently and would love to try it out.

  • I really want to get myself some Essie nail polish soon, but like you I’m trying to stick to not buying much at the moment. Hope you are feeling better soon too!

  • The Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation is on my wishlist, want it so bad, heard so many amazing reviews on it; but, there are too many shades to choose from! and I have never used or tried any Clinique products lols. I like that eye gloss, it’s sticky but it’s pretty.

    • Thanks Kay! I think I got one shade too dark in the Clinique foundation actually, so I’d recommend getting a sample if you can!
