BROWS | NYX Micro Brow vs Anastasia Brow Wiz

The Anastasia Brow Wiz has been my preferred eyebrow pencil from way back (and by way back I mean literally, right-the-way-back-to-my-first-ever-blog-post-in-2013 way back.) It’s a bit expensive though, and that fact hasn’t changed either. I’ve tried other brow pencils over the years but haven’t found anything that I like as much as the Brow Wiz.

Then Farmers started selling NYX and I had a Farmers voucher so I ordered the NYX Micro Brow pencil. It looks virtually identical to the Brow Wiz so naturally I was curious to see how it held up. (Plus for $20 it’s about half the price of a Brow Wiz pencil.)

EYES | Duping Anastasia Modern Renaissance

Modern Renaissance dupes

I’m getting pretty bored of all the warm and berry-toned eyeshadow palettes that have come out recently. The Anastasia Modern Renaissance eyeshadow palette blew up in the makeup world in 2016 and now every person who has ever taken a photo of their makeup owns it and uses it and loves it. I didn’t think I’d love it, though—too pink, too trendy, and too extraneous in my already pretty comprehensive eyeshadow collection.

Instead of buying it I thoroughly trawled Temptalia’s dupe list for shadows I already owned or that were similar and swatched them out. It was a good exercise to re-familiarise myself with the depths of my eyeshadow collection! While I wasn’t able to pull together an entire palette of Modern Renaissance dupes, I did pretty well with what I already have.

FACE | Brow pencil bonanza ft. L’Oreal, Anastasia & Hourglass

I bought a L’Oreal eyebrow pencil during the Farmers Beauty Week sales, and given my brow product purchases are usually towards the higher end of the price scale, I thought I’d give it a thorough review. The Anastasia Brow Wiz has been my ultimate favourite for some time now (it was in my very first post on this blog) and the Hourglass Arch Brow pencil made it into my 2014 makeup favourites, so the L’Oreal Le Sourcil pencil has some big shoes to fill. Because I’m stingy, I bought it with the intention of putting it in my kit, and the hope that it would be as good as my more expensive favourites. Here’s how it holds up.

FACE | How to level up your brow game

dipbrow_on

I love a good eyebrow. I’ve been filling mine in in various ways since 2008, and they’re the first part of my face I really paid attention to cosmetically. Anything you can use on eyebrows, I’ve put on them: wooden pencils, clicky pencils, powder, gel, pomade… and I’d like to think they’ve been improving over that time.

I’ve been doing something with them lately which is, admittedly, very laborious, but will help you level up your brow game. This isn’t a quick-slap-em-on-and-out-the-door job (I’ve got the Hourglass Arch Brow for that), but it’s worth it for the natural-looking brow you end up with.

FACE | Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade Chocolate vs Medium Brown

dipbrow_comparison

I’ve been going on about the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade since the start of the year (here’s my original post on it). When the product first launched there were only five shades in the range. Since then they’ve launched three new shades, and I’ve now got both Chocolate and Medium Brown. I thought it might be useful to compare these two next to each other for people who are on the fence about which shade to go with.

Morgan: March Favourites – on video!

If you’ve ever read this blog and wondered what I am like in real life, now’s your chance to find out. My friend Bronwyn invited me to join her to film our March Favourites for her channel and the video is now online and in this post. I can’t say I’ll be launching my Youtube career any time soon, but it was not as bad as I expected. Georgia says I am incredibly normal on camera so watching the video will be exactly like you’re hanging out with me and Bronwyn.

FACE | Products I’ve used up

This is only a few of the empties that I’ve been collecting since starting Hyacinth Girl in September. Eventually I decided it was time to purge the mountain of garbage and share it with you all. There’s a good selection of skincare, haircare and makeup in here, although it’s mostly eyebrow and mascara products. Anyway! Read on to see what I used up, what I had to replace right away and what I’m feeling meh about.
