LIPS | Making my own lipstick at Blend Beauty

Blend Beauty Lower Hutt custom lipstick experience

Since I saw photos of the Bite Beauty lip lab in New York City I’ve been dying to try a custom blended lipstick ~experience~. You get to go along and they work with you to blend a lipstick to your exact preference and then put it into a tube right there for you.

Then a few months ago I was invited to the opening of Blend Beauty, a custom lipstick and foundation blending experience at Dollface Beauty Hub in Lower Hutt. Custom lipstick right here in the city I grew up in! And it’s a local business!

So obviously getting a custom lipstick blended is super fun, but it has some other advantages too. If you’ve ever felt like you can’t find just the right red or nude or whatever for you, this is the way to try a few iterations and adjust it until you get something perfect. Or if you have a lip colour you love but it’s discontinued, the team at Blend Beauty can whip you up a match. And did I mention it’s really fun? And cheaper than buying a MAC lipstick, even? (It’s $37!)

BROWS | I got my brows tattooed and they’re everything

Browography before and afterThat’s me! Thanks Katt for the pro before-and-afters.

When I heard that OFF & ON was coming to Wellington and offering their Browography brow tattoo service here, I was stoked. I’ve wanted my eyebrows tattooed for ages, but I didn’t trust any of the people who were offering it in Wellington (I would say ‘no shade’, but I guess that’s the definition of shade).

OFF & ON Wellington don’t offer Browography (their term for featherstroke semi-permanent eyebrow tattooing) all the time—instead their brow artist Katt comes down from Auckland once a month or so. I had my first session last Monday, so just over a week ago now. I’m loving the results and can’t wait to see how they heal and end up looking after my second session next month.

Heads-up: this is going to be a long one. I didn’t know a whole lot about the technique or process going in so I’m going to go through it in detail for you. I trusted Katt entirely with my face and thankfully she didn’t let me down, but I know it’s a big commitment, especially for the cost, so I want to tell you all about it.

LIFE | Spring Spa Wellington

spring_spa_header

As much as I love watching Tabatha’s Salon Takeover, it has taught me to be wary of beauty salons, so I don’t treat myself as often as I should (budget may also be a factor in this). I was genuinely excited when I heard the news that Spring Spa was opening in Wellington, though, as it’s a venture from the same owners as East Day Spa, which is pretty much the only place I will trust with my face/body/appendages. Last week I got the chance to have a facial at the new Spring Spa Wellington and it was incredible. I will tell you more about how it was incredible, if you’ll let me.

LIFE | Excellent things

It’s Sunday and I’m writing this from a cafe in Auckland, sheltering from the rain before I meet Madeleine for brunch, before the Auckland Makeup Obsessives meet up! I’ve got my camera with me and will have a post up about the meet up later in the week.

But, because I’ve been really restrained with my spending lately and because I have nothing better to do right now, today’s Excellent things post will be a quick wishlist. I don’t have time to expand on everything, so just assume that I want it because it is beautiful.
