Mascara needs replacing every 3 months. I’ve been using the mascaras in this photo for much longer. I got the Clinique High Impact mascara in February last year, for god’s sake, so I am well overdue for a replacement. I expect most people reading this are exactly the same. So, who wants to win a new Maybelline mascara to replace whatever grotty mascara you’re currently using?
I’ll dignify the deaths of these five mascaras with some speed-reviews.
Clinique High Impact waterproof mascara (NZ $46): I love this and I never wanted it to end. Lots of volume, lots of length.
DIOR Diorshow mascara (NZ $63): A mascara with perfect natural results. It separates lashes and gives a ‘full and soft’ look (to borrow terminology from Maybelline).
Benefit They’re Real mascara (NZ $45): Divisive, but I love it. Length like no tomorrow, but it can go a little clumpy.
Eye of Horus mascara (AU $32): I haven’t used this one for a while, but I remember liking it enough. Good for length.
I had a bit of a false start with my new mascara. I’d been waiting to try the L’Oreal Miss Manga mascara (NZ $28) for ages, and it’s finally out in New Zealand. Problem is, I don’t really like it. The brush is an annoying shape and has a hinge halfway down the wand, which makes it hard to get an aggressive wiggle at the base of my lashes (this is how I put on mascara). You can see in the picture that it doesn’t give me the best enhancement of length or volume either.
So, moving on! What next? Well, I’m looking forward to trying the Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Big Eyes (NZ $27) mascara. Conveniently for you, I have a brand new one to give away, as well!
Just leave me a comment telling me what mascara you’re currently using, and how long you’ve been using it for. I’ll pick the winner at random in a week or so.
