Looking at the lipsticks in my handbag is the best way to tell which of my lip products I use the most. I do a clear out once a month or so, and I thought it might be interesting to share what I’ve been using lately. There’s a bit of everything: gloss, liner, sheer, opaque, matte… if you can put it on your lips, it’s probably in my handbag.
Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Rhubarb – possibly my very, very favourite lip product. It’s a neutral rosy tone a couple of shades darker than my own lips. The pigment wears off evenly, so I don’t have to worry too much about topping up.
NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Timanfaya – a bright mandarin orange. I know I suit orange lipstick, so this one lives in my bag in case I’m feeling like making my face a bit more interesting.
Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm in Coy – a glossy, sheer dark brown that’s so ugly that it’s awesome. It’s not Kylie Jenner dusky rose brown; it’s brown brown.
I made a gif out of the lipsticks because it was fun, but if you hate gifs flapping in the corner of your eye as much as I do, here’s a still for you. (Shoutout to the girl in one of my second year English lectures who would reblog Doctor Who and Supernatural fandom gifs during class. I HOPE YOU FAILED.)
Blush Baby lipstick* in Royalty – I’m sad that Nicola isn’t selling these any more, but I’m also really happy that I have this purple one. It’s as purple as Timanfaya is orange. It’s not really one you can throw on as it needs lining and layering to look really good, but it’s handy to have. Here’s pictures of it on me.
Urban Decay Revolution lipstick in Protest – if the Bite Beauty pencil wasn’t my favourite, this would be. Again, a nude: a bit brown, a bit pink, and a super moisturising formula. The only reason I don’t have more of these is because I get overwhelmed looking at all the available colours.
MAC Cremesheen lipstick in Ravishing – a refreshing coral. This formula doesn’t sit that nicely on my lips but the colour is fresh without being too bright, so I put up with it.
MAC Alluring Aquatic lipstick in Mystical – also a cremesheen, but much sheerer than Ravishing, and all the better for it. I find it hard to build up good colour intensity with it, but in retrospect this may be because it’s very, very close to my natural lip colour.
Carousel Cosmetics lipstick in Vegas Baby – fire engine red. The product description says it’s a pinky red, but it pulls orange on me and I like that because blue-based reds are not my favourite. It’s a red with the same pink/orange colour ambiguity of MAC Vegas Volt.
Maybelline Color Elixir glosses* in Caramel Infused and Nude Illusion – two opaque cream glosses. Caramel Infused is pinker than its name would suggest, but Nude Illusion is a true nude. They’re a little sticky, but much better than most glosses I’ve used.
MAC lip pencil in Spice – I really like the MAC lip pencils for wearing on their own, and Spice is a reddish-brown freckletone colour with a very matte finish.
Instead of clearing these out of my bag, I’ve thrown them all in, because nine times out of ten I forget to put a lip product on in the morning, and decide which to wear when I’m at work. If you want to know what other types of things you’ll find in my bag, here’s a post I did over on Laura’s blog at the start of the year.
How many lip products do you usually have in your bag at one time? Which is your favourite?
