I had a big day yesterday, flying to Auckland and back for the Makeup Obsessives meet up. This is the third MUO meet up I have attended, and they get bigger and better every time. Kirsty (that’s her up there, being cute and lovely despite being quite sick!) is a superstar for being the creator of such a big Facebook group, and for organising such fab events! I don’t usually get all positive and gushy, so obviously I really mean it.
I did a pretty bad job of taking photos because I was hanging out, but here are a few snaps from the day.
Because I often make decisions without thinking of the implications, I booked a flight to Auckland that landed at 8 am. This meant I had to get up painfully early (my Dad very kindly drove me to the airport) and I had some time to kill in the morning. I hung out at a cafe with free wifi and shitty coffee, waiting for Maddy to meet me and go for brunch at Ortolana. My meal (mushrooms, porcini crumb, balsamic, poached egg) was unbelievably delicious, and the fact that the restaurant’s default water is sparkling made me feel extra fancy. Plus, I had a brilliant long black which made up for the aforementioned terrible one.
We got an Uber to the venue (is that what you say? I have no idea about Uber, we don’t have it in Wellington) and then I was too excited about being reunited with lovely people and meeting others (like Sophie from Nana Wintour and Christel and her sister Camille from Makeupper) to take many photos. Here’s one of Maddy anyway.
I also met Toni from Beauty Bliss and her friend Fiona, and we had a great wine-fueled chat before I had to dash off again to make it back to the airport for my flight. Toni took this photo of me that I promised I would post… it is definitely evidence I was having a good time.
Kirsty always arranges goodie bags for everyone at the meet ups and this time she really outdid herself – with the support of some local sponsors, of course. Here’s a shot of what I got in mine, including a Blush Baby lipstick to add to my collection, and a lipstick from Carousel Cosmetics (Toni from Beauty Bliss’ own line). I’m super excited to try the Elizabeth Arden cream shadow, because it’s a nice neutral toffee shade. (There was an Elizabeth Arden serum and a L’Oreal Elvive shampoo, too, but I gave those to my mama to say thank you for picking me up from the airport when I got home).
This was just a quick post and I really dropped the ball with taking photos, but Camille had her camera and got plenty of good shots, so I expect you will be able to find those over on Makeupper soon! The next MUO meet up will be in Hamilton, and I’m considering making the trip again…
