Holla at yo’ highlight

I bought a new highlighting product and it arrived this week, so I thought I would do a comparison post of the highlighters I have.

I don’t wear highlighter every day. Most of my blushes have some shimmer in them, and I’m not usually aiming for an excessively glowing look at work. If I do wear highlighter I’ll pair it with a contour and skip blush for that day.

The Real Techniques setting brush is perfect for applying highlighter in localised areas without overdoing it. I do want to try a giant fan brush like I’ve seen some people using, not sure where to get one though. Any suggestions?

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade

My Lightscapade doesn’t have a lot of blue veining, like some do – that’s what you get with MSFs where each one is different. It’s very, very subtle. By that I mean you can’t really see it when it’s on your skin unless you build it up intensely. Sometimes I wear it when I just want a low key highlight, but I feel like most of the time I’m putting it on and convincing myself I can see a difference. Maybe mine is a dud?

TheBalm Mary-Lou Manizer

This is my favourite highlighter. In the pan it looks mega glittery but is so finely milled that it just gives your skin a nice golden glowy effect. You have to be quite light with your hand in application or you get a reflective stripe down your face, so it’s pretty much the opposite of my Lightscapade in that respect. The packaging is a little cheesy though, and that’s probably what has prevented me from buying any more of TheBalm’s products.

NARS Illuminator in Copacabana

This is my newest highlighter. I wanted a cream highlight product because I’ve had great luck with a few cream blushes lately (more on that later). I bought a mini from someone online before committing to the full size, and I’m glad I did! This product sparkles. It’s meant to give you ‘instant radiance’, but the effect is more ‘instant body glitter’. I might try mixing this with my foundation before I give up on it entirely. The colour is nice and pearlescent. Maybe the NARS Multiple in this colour might be better?

Update! I mixed this with my foundation and it was excellent. Thank goodness this was not a complete waste of money!

L-R NARS Illuminator in Copacabana, TheBalm Mary-Lou Manizer and MAC MSF in Lightscapade.

Swatched on my arm, you can see that the Mary-Lou Manizer blends out nicely, Lightscapade disappears and Copacabana glitters.
